Master improvising over chord progressions!
Building on what you learned in Seven Worlds for Guitar, in this course we will explore the art of improvising over songs and chord progressions. You’ll learn to improvise your own melodies over changing chords across the entire fretboard, and you’ll learn to express your own musical ideas in a way that truly connects with your musical imagination.
You’ll also learn how to add chords to your solos, improvising your own chord voicings anywhere on the fretboard just as easily as you can improvise melody lines. You’ll even learn the foundation for full chord melody playing, so that you can play totally unaccompanied solo guitar and create a complete musical world for your listeners.
Here are some of the skills you will learn:
- Learn how to improvise over changing chords with complete melodic freedom, playing directly from your musical imagination.
- Master 12 of the most important chord progressions in all popular music.
- Learn how to hear the chord tones melodically, and bring out these sounds in your music.
- Learn the art of chord comping, improvising your own chord voicings anywhere on the fretboard.
- Learn how to freely combine melody notes and chords in your solos, even as the chords are changing.
- Learn how simply jamming with chord tones all across the fretboard can be suddenly transformed into full chordal improvisation.
- Learn how to use chord melody techniques for totally unaccompanied solo guitar performance.
- Special focus on using tension and release to create form and structure in your music.
- Method 100% integrated with your ear, with creative exercises for both guitar and voice.
Over 4.5 hours of lesson content
The total lesson time of the course is about 4 hours and 30 minutes. The course is divided into 12 lessons which are approximately 20 to 25 minutes in length. Each lesson introduces the next level of the method, including step-by-step demonstrations and playing examples on the guitar. The lessons are accompanied by jam tracks that let you practice improvising in a real musical setting.
Just like all of the IFR video courses, each lesson is actually a whole new level in your musical thinking, giving you the tools to develop your own music and your own musical style with each new concept. These concepts stack up fast, resulting in a way of playing at the end of the course that most students can’t even imagine at the beginning!
